Emergency Personnel

This four hour program will provide information on SIDS legislation affecting emergency first responders, current research theories and the relationship between maternal/infant risk factors and SIDS. The role of emergency personnel and coroner in responding to a sudden infant death, how to compassionately assist and support families, and the tasks of grieving are included as part of this program. The impact of SIDS on the first responder and ways to cope with critical incident stress will also be covered.

Targeted groups for this presentation could include law enforcement officers, sheriffs, fire fighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and other first responders.

This educational session can be adapted for presentations to allied emergency personnel such as trauma intervention staff, coroners, and other investigative personnel.

There is a course outline to guide the trainer through the powerpoint presentation which also serves as a reproducible handout. Specific needs/objectives are outlined and all the support materials such as handouts, booklets, questions most often asked of the coroner, and suggested audio-visual aids are included. A cover and title page for the participant folder complete the training resources.
