When planning for a training, it may be helpful to use the following checklist:
Identify the needs of your local target audience.
Arrange a time and location for the training.
Notify potential participants of date and time of training with sufficient advance notice.
Contact the California SIDS Program if assistance is needed to obtain training materials and/or current statistics.
Check with your own agency regarding local policies, procedures, and protocols.
As necessary, contact your local SIDS Coordinator (Public Health Nurse) for local resources and assistance.
Make arrangements for SIDS parents to participate (include both mothers and fathers, if possible).
Prepare a list of other available resources including professional services for dealing with critical incident stress.
Prepare training packets and registration sign -in forms.
Procure educational and audio-visual aids (LCD projector, laptop computer, flip charts, chalk, masking tape, etc.) as needed for the day of training.
Issue training/CEU certificates, if provided.
After the training has been conducted, review evaluations, and evaluate training effectiveness.
Respond to requests or questions asked at the training session.
Send thank you letters to speakers and others who provided assistance and support.
Maintain SIDS training data such as: target audience, number of participants, and a summary of evaluation comments.
